Preface

The Society for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Research & Arts (SASTRA), Bengaluru, in collaboration with BGS Institutions, Bengaluru, and the Karnataka State Scientific Research Council (KSSRC), is jointly organizing a National-Level School Children’s Science Exhibition 2026 in January 2026.

The objective of this exhibition is to strengthen science education, promote astronomical awareness, and encourage rational thinking across Karnataka and other states of India.

We kindly seek permission to organize this event and assure you that we will abide by all the rules and regulations of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka.

Our collaborative team has been actively engaged in science outreach for the past FOUR years, reaching and inspiring more than 10,000 students each year through initiatives such as:

State-Level Science Exhibition & Popularization Events – We have been hosting annual expos of national standards, designed to encourage students to pursue research and scientific innovation. Over the past four years, our State-Level Science Expo has provided the students with a platform to showcase their innovations and gain exposure to cutting-edge research.

Astronomical Telescope-Making Workshops – Engaging students and educators in hands-on telescope construction, fostering curiosity and deeper interest in observational astronomy.

Superstition Awareness Programs – Conducting scientific demonstrations to dispel myths and challenge irrational beliefs, particularly across rural India.

We are honored to have Dr. A. S. Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman of ISRO, as an active mentor, guiding our mission to advance scientific literacy and foster rational thinking.

We are also privileged to have Dr. K.P.J. Reedy, Retired Professor of IISc, Bengaluru, as an active mentor and guiding force behind all our scientific activities.

The Society for the Advancement  of  Science,  Technology,  Research and Arts (SASTRA) promotes science and technology and nurtures scientific temper among all age groups. Through summer schools, mobile science labs, public lectures and workshops led by expert resource persons, SASTRA makes scientific knowledge engaging and accessible to students and the wider community.

Proposal for Collaboration

We seek the collaboration, support, and partnership of the Department of Science and Technology (GoI) to scale up our initiatives nationwide by:

  • Aligning with the Department of Science and Technology’s outreach programs to expand the impact of our state-level science expos, seminars, and astronomy workshops.
  • Providing funding and logistical support to reach more underserved communities with hands-on science engagement.
  • Endorsing our initiatives to integrate them into the Science Popularization Mission and other relevant programs.

We would be honored to discuss this proposal further and explore opportunities to work together in fostering scientific curiosity and rational thinking across India.

Dr. S. Onkara Naik
